S.KRAUSE

I

Only salt in the air
And decay in the breeze,
Sailing towards oblivion,
Taking as much time as we please.

Murky water deep and vast,
Many days no land in sight.
Robust sail hung taunt from the mast,
The sun ascends, banishing the night.

Craving the primeval
Yet tightly bound to our past,
In a world of constant structure,
How long will my sanity last?

So I flee from this life
On a ship made of dreams,
Leaving behind mountains of strife
And a world laden with tortured screams.

There is no place to go,
Only a quest underway;
Our captain's motives unknown---
His course I cannot sway.

Boards creaking under foot;
Foam frothing all around
Make me sever my rotting roots
And break my ties to solid ground.

Now I am out to sea.
My pain and hurting song
Left behind in a world of death:
For in the sea, one must belong.

Only salt in the air
And decay in the breeze,
Sailing towards oblivion,
Only time can answer my pleas.
